Destiny 2: Guitar Error Code Explained

The Destiny 2 Guitar error code is one you can experience on both PC and consoles during regular play and especially during the release of a new expansion, Raid, Dungeon, or other high-profile content. Whenever it hits you, you’ll be booted from whatever activity you were doing and any Fireteam you were a part of and end up back in orbit alone. Learn more about the Guitar error and what you can do about it here.

How to Fix the Guitar Error Code in Destiny 2

Guitar errors happen, according to the official Bungie Help support page, “when too many items aren’t picked up off the ground in an activity, such as Gambit.” They advise you pick up everything you can off the ground to alleviate those errors in most cases. Items to pick up include:

  • Orbs of Power
  • Glimmer
  • Engrams (Rare, Legendary, Powerful, etc.)
  • Ammo (Primary, Special, Heavy)

Gathering enough objects on the ground to cause a Guitar error takes some effort, as you have to overload your connection to the servers with all the data being sent between you and the objects. However, there are other times Guitar errors occur: in moments of heavy load on Bungie servers more generally.

Guitar can also occur on Bungie’s end, where Destiny servers are having issues handling the massive load of too many players. Here are a few ways to keep track of and fix Guitar errors.

Check the Server Status

The official Bungie Help Twitter Account usually has updates within 15 minutes of Guitar error increases beginning, and while they might not have a timeline on a fix, you at least know you’re not alone. You can also check the status of your device’s or service’s servers on their respective pages:

Check Your Connection

There are a few ways to ensure your connection is not the issue.

  • Run a speed test on speedtest.net and watch out for packet loss, inconsistent speeds, and other issues.
  • Restart your router.
  • Check for outages from your internet service provider.

If you confirm the Guitars aren’t a problem on your end and Bungie or the wider community reports that it’s something they need to fix, there isn’t much you can do but wait for the problems to subside. Issues tend to be resolved in a couple of hours, though larger-scale outages might drag into the afternoon and evening, depending on the severity.
