Do You Need To Finish FFXVI Before Starting The Rising Tide?

Wondering how far you’ll need to get in FFXVI before starting The Rising Tide? Pretty far, as it happens.

One of the weird things about Final Fantasy 16 is that a key player is missing from the game. You encounter the Dominants of all the main elements – fire, thunder, ice, etcetera – all except the Dominant of water, the person associated with the Eikon Leviathan. Thankfully, this is something rectified by The Rising Tide DLC, which deals explicitly with this liquid legend.

It’s worth taking the time out to complete these Final Fantasy 16 side quests.

Of course, you’ll have to do some legwork before you can meet this water god. Quite a lot, in fact. The Rising Tide is a challenging gauntlet, and the game is kind enough to make sure you’re prepared before you can even access it.

How To Begin The Rising Tide DLC

The Rising Tide is an endgame DLC with fitting challenges. As a result, there are three things you must do before you can access it:

  • You must have the final story mission of the base game, Origin, unlocked and available on the world map. As long as you can see this mission on the map, that’s this requirement ticked off.
  • You must also have completed the Where There’s a Will side quest. This unlocks after unlocking Origin, so as long as you’ve satisfied the first point on this list, you can pursue this goal.
  • You must also have completed the Priceless side quest. This unlocks immediately after completing Where There’s a Will.

When you satisfy these requirements, you’ll be notified that a new missive has been added to your Reading Table. It’s titled ‘(Unmarked)‘ and references Leviathan’s Dominant – heeding this mysterious request will begin the DLC storyline.

This DLC also unlocks Kairos Gate – repeatable combat-oriented content. This can be accessed from the Arete stone at the Hideaway after completing the main Rising Tide storyline.
