Even with its absolutely unprecedented financial and critical success, it’s hard to believe that an official Elden Ring movie is actually on the way, let alone that it’s releasing in just a bit over a year now. While we’re still waiting for more official information and a trailer for fans to sink their teeth into, the upcoming live-action adaptation already has a star-studded cast of actors.
Thankfully, a recent update has fans all the more excited, as while initial estimates already suggested that Elden Ring would be A24’s most expensive project yet at roughly $100M, the film has reportedly skyrocketed to nearly $200M to make, according to Deadline, making a major record for the independent entertainment company.
A24’s Elden Ring Is Incredibly Ambitious
Spotted by CinemaNow on X, the details come from several analyses of A24’s recent successes like the award-winning Now You See Me, which briefly touched on the progress of the upcoming Elden Ring movie as a part of the studio’s current trend of taking on riskier projects.
In addition to the staggering budget afforded to FromSoftware’s iconic RPG, sources have noted that the script itself is “at least 180 pages with visuals, implying the movie could push towards three hours.” While neither detail bout the length nor cost has been explicitly confirmed by A24 themselves yet, the details have already been spreading from several independent sources online.
Although Elden Ring’s currently rumored length would still fall just short of A24’s The Brutalist with a whopping three-and-a-half-hour runtime, it will still get to hold the record of A24’s most expensive film ever made even if its lowest estimates are accurate.
The Studio Is On An Absolute Winning Streak Lately
While the Elden Ring project has been turning heads for taking full advantage of the franchise and its explosive popularity, it also seems to be arriving at a perfect time for A24 themselves, with a number of the studio’s recent films receiving viral success and glowing review scores alike.
Although we’ll have to wait until closer to release for more details about the upcoming adaptation, A24’s massive film project will be drawing plenty of attention when it releases in theatres and IMAX on March 3, 2028.
