Level-5 brought their “concept next Yo-Kai Watch” to Tokyo Game Show 2026 to not only show it off, but also allow fans to take the game for a spin following the reveal of the new look before the show kicked off. We have some thoughts on the demo and go over the general gameplay, battle system, visuals, audio, performance and more in this set of impressions straight from the show.

do u have a recording of the decapolice free roam section
I'll say, the detail in the game looks very nice, and the animations on display for all characters look pretty good as well. But, as you said, the game looks far too sterile and, imo, bland from a visual point of view. If they had strived for that original art style, I would have been more on board with this game, but as it stands, I can't really say whether I'm excited for it or not. The gameplay looks charming and the music had me bopping my head the whole time, but yeah, it's got some work to do when it comes to getting my money. I do hope for the best though. I know Yokai Watch fans have been starved since YW4 released back in 2019, and I really want them to have a game that'll cater to their desires.
Those original graphics were so good, wish they kept them…
Ai slop
i think the graphics and animations are unique for a video game
I knew it would turn out good. As a former yokai watch monk knowing every pillar of the franchise inside out, I have a decently good feeling.
Thanks for your great coverage. I also prefer anime-style visuals, but I've seen them criticized for looking "cheap" compared to realistic styles like the new graphics. I guess LEVEL5 is going for mass appeal here…
I trust Level-5 to continue to deliver charming characters and wonderful environments to explore.
Outside of the time it takes to release titles (and this AI debacle) they rarely disappoint.
combat looks fun but the capture mechanic seems too superficial and hold handy, you just click a button to see where you have to go and what to do, you don't really discover anything by yourself, seems like it'l get really old really soon, also think it looked better in the trailer
I think level 5 and their recent projects are all very cool. This included
i must admit, this is a very interesting game… sadly we'll not see it until 2028 at least.
