How LEGO Changes The Much-Loved Skylines Formula | gamescom 2026

Merging the playful building of LEGO with the city-building and management of City Skylines, LEGO Skylines is a merging of two styles that just feels right. We caught up with Game Director and Co-Founder of Iceflake Studios; Lasse Liljedahl and producer, Joanna Ronkanen to learn more about LEGO Skylines. Who was the target player for this spin-off? How much of CIty Skylines flavour did they get in? Have they managed to nail the tactile satisfying feeling of building with LEGO in real life? We ask all that and more!

LEGO Skylines will be coming to PlayStation 5 (PS5), Nintendo Switch 2, PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X|S.

Would love if you can scan your Lego City purchases and add it into the game. Like Lego Modular sets.

"In City Skylines you focus on traffic.." yeah can it not be the main focus though? I love the game, but once you hit a certain point it's just traffic jam manager: the game.

Using lego as an aesthetic instead of actually letting the player build their own building, busses, bridges is a waste.

Ever since the beginning when they started making Lego games I always thought this would be the type of game they would make. About damn time.

I wonder if they agora going to keep selling a sh*tload of dlcs with things that should be in the game like EA did with sim city.

The amount of people without Adblocks in here is insane.
Please research a bit on this – there's all kinds of systems you can set up to live ad free for the rest of your life – no matter the device. Big corporations take so much from you already – don't let them take any more

CS2 failed and the engine is so bad they scaled it down and reskinned it with lego… 🤦‍♂

Are we sure about the brick by brick part?

Wow ad every 30 seconds!

I would be pretty bummed if their 'full customization' actually means just swapping out some props. Their website description got me really hyped thinking everything being fully customizable. But this interview seems to be really tuning down those expectations…
I was expecting some kind of editor where you can make stuff brick by brick, and then label it as a residential building, vehicle, whatever, and upload it to Steam or PDX Mods and use those creations as prefabs in the game.

After seeing at least 100+ Fable ads in the last week, I might wait on playing the game now. Thanks IGN

Jane Douglas!!!

While I understand the target audience is adults I most definitely think these days that 7 to 10 year old could easily pick up on what the game mechanics require. I mean come on, LEGO, you need to build the future here, not just things for old people.

8:56 are there any Lego specific disasters? A man has fallen into the river in Lego City!

Jane works for IGN now?

This entire line of questioning was insufferable and ridiculous. I don't think I learned anything about this game besides the fact that it's not Cities: Skylines…which, clearly…

You had the chance to actually do Brick by Brick, and you FAILED!

If they had put Jane on the thumbnail, I would have watched this much sooner.

Pre-made buildings? Ah man, that sucks, I was looking forward to creating my world exactly as I wanted it, not how someone else designed a building… Another Lego video game let down 😞

Favatar

IDK man. Looks like Cities Skylines with a Lego skin. I thought the whole point of Legos was to build creative things. Not having the ability to build buildings brick by brick, or section by section is kind of lame tbh. What about like a creator with sized plots and you can build a building or service or whatever in that plot? Then that plot can procedurally generate as one of the structures. I really hope to god they aren't pulling a sim city. Being invested in a 'sims' life WAS tried before in the recently hot-dog water disaster of sim city. 8:10 – Yeah that has my worries.

I hope we can make our own buildings using a creator / building tools or mods designed by the STEAM community. That would be just the best.
