Not sure why, but your comments about that negative review sound a bit demeaning… but that person was 100% right to complain. "If they took the 2 seconds it takes to look at the controls tab…"
Nobody should need to go into the options menu and look at the controls before playing a game. The game should either be intuitive enough, show you exactly what button to press via UI, or have a tutorial to explain things. This is not the fault of the user. You then go on to explain why that happened (you as a developer know how to play your game so you don't realize other people don't) But then you say "some players need more help". No man… ALL players need more help. Nobody is instinctively going to know to press E in your game unless you tell or show them. (I'm assuming the little goblin UI upgrade arrow with the "E" on it was not in that build of the game)
I hope in your future games, before you release them, you seek out playtesters to help point out these obvious problems with your games, and I really hope you don't belittle and demean them and imply they are dumb for not understanding how your mind works. Now if the "E" UI thing was there the entire time… your response makes a bit more sense, however I still think it's up to the developer to explain the mechanics to the player and make the onboarding experience a lot easier. A simple little UI message popping up saying "Press E to access the upgrade tree" once the player has enough of whatever they need to upgrade for the first time, would be a massive improvement, for starters.
Why did you put the screenshots before the Steam trailer on the Steam page? They say the trailer is supposed to come first.
btw double check but im pretty sure you're not allowed to show some stuff from behind the scenes of the process
Nice little video! Im a builder myself so its nice to see breakdowns of your development and release cycle!
Dude! Had no idea you were making steam games! Please keep us informed on future games.
Gonna do another incremental or..?
Did you get your full Personal Calender run? Seems like it didn't get enough attention!
You need lots of goblins and co in the screenshots! Also why is your trailer not the first thing shown! Fix that and you'll sell a lot more copies. The graphics are appealing, but the screenshots seem aggressively poorly selected. If 5:38 was a screenshot you'd instantly get free money. See talks from How Many Dudes devs etc. People love screens full of stuff especially in this genre.
Your tags are also bad…Seriously just copy how successful idle games set out their pages.
Now you can work on the sequel of the game and make it better! Using a lot of the sistem and working on a better quality game, also working on another theme!
Then the games start stacking 🤑
Congratulations on your first launch 🎉 im a solo indie developer aswell and my game is coming oct 30th and being shown soon on the steam next fest come check it out id love some feedback to improve it 8:46
Every launch is a miracle. Congratulations on your first launch. Onwards and upwards!
Lovely dev log homeslice
How come every YouTuber seems to be making an incremental game?
aww if this had mac access i woulda bought this
Uuuuh. All that steamworks dashboard stuff is under NDA btw. Lol
Congrats dude! Dont get discouraged by any negative steam reviews by the way! Steam reviews are notoriously ruthless. While most of the critisism you recieve is actually good, even if you ignore the harsh way they are often delivered, it can still be tough to read about a thing you spent so much time on.
Main thing is you made a game and you can be proud of that! Good luck with your future games 🙂
nice, thanks for shearing.
Since it's unity wouldn't it be easy to add a Linux build
Cool!!
Let's go geeze!
