Winter you should try Steel Division 2. Its the only RTS that even comes close to SC2. Granted its a WW2 RTS but the smooth feel and mechanics are top notch. The campaign is amazing and also has a very good online multiplayer scene.
I do hope they do a NS2-like game. A RTS + FPS game, i do think it would be great!

I would've liked the idea of a non-RTS spinoff of Starcraft if Starcraft 3 was also in the pipeline.

Some people have asked me if I'm excited, and I have to ask… excited for what? We have like 0 information and a game won't be out until 2030 if it EVER comes out. Look if a cool game releases and its fun, I'll buy and play it, but this is nothing. I hope more people learn their lesson (they won't), and stop pre-ordering crap. Buy games when they are finished, and fun to play. Giving a company money on a promise of a game is so fucking dumb.
RTS genre just doesnt have the player base for game devs to justify making a RTS game. Also how many RTS games have failed in recent years. A shooter appeals to way more people and can easily be on console. People complain but from a dev and business standpoint it makes total sense to make it a shooter. More players is always better.
