Resident Evil 2 Remake has officially surpassed 20 million copies sold

Unlike many video game publishers, Capcom is rather transparent when it comes to sharing and updating the sales performance of its games, offering data on all titles which have sold in excess of 1 million units. As part of the company’s last fiscal earnings report, Capcom revealed that 2019’s excellent Resident Evil 2 Remake has now officially sold over 20 million copies.

As part of the company’s report for the first half of Fiscal Year 2026, Capcom offered an updated look at the top 10 best-selling games of the year as of September 2026. Perhaps somewhat unsurprisingly, 6 of the top 10 are all Resident Evil games, with 2023’s RE4 Remake taking the no. 1 spot with 3.5 million copies sold this year (bringing its total to 17.15 million units).

In terms of milestone achievements, 2019’s Resident Evil 2 Remake has managed to enter a new echelon of game sales – having now officially surpassed 20 million copies while maintaining its spot as the second best-selling Capcom game of all time.

That said, plenty of other games are also nearing their own sales milestones, with the likes of Devil May Cry 5 and Resident Evil 3 closing in on 15 million (currently at 14.78 and 14.93 million respectively) while Resident Evil 7 Biohazard is nearing 20 million (with 18.87 million copies sold so far).

Unfortunately for Capcom, 2025’s Monster Hunter Wilds failed to reach the top 10 during H1 2026, and so we will have to wait for the publisher to update its ‘Platinum Titles’ list to see where the game currently stands. The full fiscal earnings report can be found HERE.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Capcom’s best sellers for the year? Are you surprised Monster Hunter Wilds isn’t on there? Will RE4 Remake eventually outsell Resident Evil 2? Let us know your thoughts down below.
