The 2026 Game Developers Conference, where Microsoft “VP of Next Generation” Jason Ronald is talking about a topic near and dear to many gamers’ hearts: the future of Xbox. Ronald says the next Xbox, codenamed Project Helix, will have a custom AMD chip with “an order of magnitude increase in raytracing performance” up to and including path tracing, and a next-gen version of AMD’s FSR upscaling technology that relies on machine learning and includes frame generation — which can improve the perceived smoothness of a game by imagining new frames between existing ones.

Here's what Xbox needs to do to win me back from PlayStation.
1 – Recording functionality. I need to be able to record an hour of prior video and do simple cut edits in the system, like I can on PlayStation. That's an hour of my previous gameplay, not I can record an hour long video by pressing record and going forward. I need an hour of prior gameplay recording, and it needs to work without stuttering framerates or desynchronized audio.
2 – Save files. I need to be able to back up my save files to a flash drive.
3 – Games, for crying out loud. They bought all these damn studios when they released the series XBox, and I've seen next to no games come out of it.
I've been a big fan of Xbox since the first one ever launched I've had all the way up to the Xbox One s but after that I can't keep up with the consoles with the prices that keep going up right because I'm in California like that's pretty much self-explanatory but I know I'm not the only state out there that's seeing these prices in the hikes and everything so I know I'm glad I'm not the only one that's in that same boat that can't afford a new consoles

Really curious if it will be able to play disc games. I have a big Xbox 360 disc collection, as well as some Xbox One discs. Would be pretty upset if disc games play worse on a "plug-in" disc drive… 🤔🤔🤔
