The iconic web series, The Guild, is getting a big reunion movie through Kickstarter. The Guild: Ren Faire’d, which brings back the original cast and creator Felicia Day, has already reached its ambitious funding goal on the platform and continues to climb.
The Guild: Ren Faire’d Kickstarter Campaign
According to the campaign page, The Guild: Ren Faire’d will bring back the original cast: Amy Okuda, Jeff Lewis, Robin Thorsen, Vince Caso, Sandeen Parikh, and Felicia Day, reprising their roles as the Knights of Good, embarking on an adventure rarely seen in big-budget Hollywood movies: a Renaissance Faire. The movie, much like the original series, will be independently produced by creator Felicia Day alongside the Kickstarter campaign funding.
For those not aware, The Guild was a pioneer of early web-series production. Long before major personalities, the mainstream adoption of nerd culture, or content creators dominated the YouTube space, The Guild was a modest show that followed the members of an MMO guild whose virtual adventures would collide with their personal lives. The show spanned six seasons containing 70 episodes total, concluding in 2012.
In many ways, The Guild helped showcase the appeal of nerd culture and Felicia Day’s status as a nerd creator. In addition to guest spots on shows like Buffy and Supernatural, she was the founder of the tabletop channel Geek & Sundry, which was the original host for the actual play institution, Critical Role.
That modest production spirit, and unapologetic nerd focus, will be kept with The Guild: Ren Faire’d. The campaign includes not just digital and physical copies of the movie, but other accessories and peripheral material from The Guild. This includes The Guild comic book omnibus, an official D&D setting book by Hitpoint Press, pins, signed posters and scripts by the cast and crew, and a tie-in card game by Cyanide & Happiness and Scrungo Games.
