The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu Review

The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu reviewed by Len Hafer on PC, also available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

If you have a reliable group to play with, The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu can be a challenging and entertaining horror excursion. Sometimes it feels a bit too oppressive, though, and could benefit a lot from more nuanced difficulty options, especially for introducing newer players into a high-level group. Still, clever sanity effects, great enemy variety, and an expanse of eerie, majestic jungle to explore are enough that this one will probably stay in my crew’s rotation when we’re up for something heart-pounding.

Can confirm this is a decently solid game and worth $30, atmosphere is extremely bleak as it should be, genuinely innovative at times and had me questioning my own sanity or if I could even trust a single thing I was seeing. You definitely need at least one friend to hop in the party though.

Maybe… there are situations in Lovecraft that are hopeless and its a part of narration and experience? In the end, you end up in those kind of situations, as a result of your decisions. I dont think that difficulty is a propblem, its a part of peculiar experience.

Some devs are learning an odd lesson from Soulslikes. "People love being overwhelmed by enemies and throwing their controller across the room."

Advanced racism? You guys have lost the plot. Get a grip.

The ign reviewer sounds like such a dork “erm they didn’t take a strong enough stance against colonialism”

This game is mostly for friends or family members if they play games or have time which mostly mine don’t play games 😂, since the game communication is so much easier. Playing with strangers? They be getting mad for no reason and always starting drama.. 😂 Halloween is a different story, though—it’s every man for himself. 😂 It doesn’t really require communication… it’s all about escaping.

Ngl the game did not do a great job describing it in the trailers. I thought it would be a more sons of the forest game.

This game is amazing. I had so much fun with the demo, even more so since I came in with low expectations. I bought it as soon as I could, and I hope it has a good lifespan.

Game looks fun. Sounds like we finally have a good lovecraftian multiplayer game to dive into. Looking forward to playing this one. Thanks IGN!

I'd rather have bad bot ai helpers than no bot ai helpers at all since eventually these games die and i'd like to still be able to plug them in and have a reminder of what the game is like. I feel in the no disc era we should stop giving deductions (i assume) for games that add bots that aren't amazing…but i get it, hopefully they can make the bots better in games, heck ill take ai just used to do that learning from all the players to act human.

IGN is staffed by poly sci undergrads who couldn't get jobs at CNN so their political screeds are disguised as game reviews. 0/10

– 7/10 a little something for everyone but no easy mode in the survival horror

IGN sucks. I hate smaller games because there's so few reviews I might have to support the actual worst company in gaming: IGN

What is IGN even talking about, there are 4 things to evaluate out of a Game

1 How smooth the gameplay is
2 How fun it's
3 Little Introduction to the game
4 price

That's what a Review should look like, you own thoughts about how the game should be for you is not something that we as a Player care much and honestly you can keep those for yourself, rating negative a game just because your own opinion on how it would be instead of enjoying the experience sounds like something IGN would always do

Fantastic! I’m having a blast even playing solo. Thank you @ACETeamSoftware for another great game in such a saturated market. This one is unique and I urge you to buy it and try it out for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.

Mentioning racism when Lovecraft comes up has become a liberal staple.

The high difficulty floor and general sense of hopelessness in situations is exactly what a Lovecraftian title NEEDS. I understand we are in an age of excessive tutorials, handholding and approachability above quality but it to really capture the atmosphere, none of that mess is welcome here. A bit odd that the only thing I keep hearing in the review is praise but then whine that a difficult and unforgiving premise is difficult and unforgiving
